3 SEO Tactics Any Biz Owner Can Implement

Transcription: Our Founder, John D Saunders, breaks down 3 SEO tactics any business owner can implement in just 10 minutes. Yep, just ten minutes.

Welcome to 2016 guys. I hope you’re crushing it at the start of the year. Since it’s the first month of 2016, let’s start the year off with some search engine optimization. Why, you ask? Because most agencies make SEO out to be harder than rocket science when honestly, it’s not. It just takes work and it could be an awesome tool to catapult your website leads and traffic especially if you know where to aim.

So, really quick, SEO or search engine optimization is the science behind getting your website rank on search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo in a position where users can see it.

Usually, on page one, it’s done my creating quality content, optimizing your website, leveraging backlinks and other tactics to make it obvious to Google your website is a go to for your specific article.

It sounds complicated, right? Well, here’s the thing, the fundamentals have never changed. If you can create a quick loading website, perform on site optimization of your content and create killer articles and blogs to drive traffic, you can start to increase your website rankings. Couple that with crawling links from other websites and you have a recipe for success and success is delicious.

So, in today’s Digital Block, I wanted to go over three quick SEO tactics any business owner can implement in ten minutes. Yes, 10 minutes.

That includes setting up Webmaster Tool, editing your whole page title, content and description and then setting up a series of pages like a Google Business page, a Crunch Base profile and your other social profiles to start taking over your own organic traffic.

Okay, so the first thing you want to do is setup our webmaster tools. Now, go to Google.com/webmasters and that will bring you to the landing page. The reason it’s so important is because of the xml site map which is basically the list of pages you want search engines to find written in a language and format that works well for search engines to understand the structure of your website.

So essentially, with Webmasters, you’re gift wrapping your website and giving it to Google and saying, hey, check out my website and make sure you monitor it.

So the first thing you want to do is sign into search console. You can see there’s a list of websites that we currently have on Webmaster tools. You’re going to hit add a property and go ahead and put in your URL. Put in your URL according to the structure you have on your site so it can be either www.xyz.com or xyz.com.

Next up, that brings you to the methods page. For the sake of time, as a business owner, I know you have to move quick. I say go ahead and verify on Google Analytics. All you have to do is click Google Analytics here and hit Verify Now and you should get an approved message. Now, you can also install an HTML tag on the homepage in the header but the easiest thing, quickest way is be on Google Analytics. If you don’t have Analytics installed, that’s no problem. Just send me a direct message, john@5fourdigital.com and I’ll send you a quick tutorial on how to install it. Once you hit that and hit continue, you should get a Verify message.

That will bring you to the Search Console dashboard. So here is the hub of Webmaster Tools. Here you can see any crawl errors on your site. Google will tell you if there is any problem, any 404 errors that is bouncing back. Search Analytics will give you search queries and your site map will give you how many site map URLs you submitted. So it will blink right now because we just set it up. I’m going to show you what one looks like completed.

The first thing you want to do once you’re on Webmaster Tools is hit site maps. Now, if you’re using WordPress or any similar program, you can set up your site map pretty easily. All you have to do is hit add/test site map. Usually, the appendage is site map_index.xml. Now, that’s usually. If you’re running another website like Magento or something else, you can actually create one online as well.

Just go to Google, type in create website site map, just go here to xml-sitemaps.com, all you need to do is submit a URL, change frequency, how many times you want Google to crawl your site, any modifications you’ve made in recent time and hit start. Once that’s done, download the site map file and upload it to your domain, root folder of your website. Once you do that, add your site map in the same way you did here, sitemap-index.html and then hit submit.

Once you hit submit, wait for a few hours to go ahead and crawl on your website and give your processed message. As you can see, I did this yesterday so it’s already crawled these pages. It’s crawled 21 pages so far. Awesome. So, your site map is installed.

Next thing you want to do is hit the settings button in the upper right hand corner and click Google Analytics property. You go into link your Analytics property to your Webmaster tools so that you will be able to see search console data in Analytics. I know that sounds crazy. Essentially, it means that you’ll be able to see search queries or search these individuals on Google that are getting directly to your site. So let’s scroll down, let’s go to the site. All you need to do is click the specific site and hit save. When it asks you do you want to do another association, just hit okay and that’s it.

Okay, so this is what a website looks like with some data. We have a few errors on our site, 70 URLs are not found so we need to make sure we look at those 404 errors. In the middle, we can look at search analytics. Now, to me, this is the most important piece. If I click that, Webmaster Tools shows me the queries or the searches individuals are putting on Google that are driving the most traffic to my website. So for example, 5 Four Digital, the business name of course is driving a lot of clicks. Keywords like digital marketing Miami, digital agency Miami, digital agencies Miami, these tells me that Google is putting me in a good position where I’m getting consistent clicks to the website from those search queries.

Now, I can also look at your impressions, meaning, how many other impressions sharing with other websites, did you click to rate on specific keywords and also my position. This is a great way to see data on keywords that people are searching for based on your website content. Okay, now that we’ve set our Webmaster tools, let’s move on to the next set, optimizing your home page.

To optimize the SEO on your homepage, the most important page on your website, you want to focus on your title, your description and the content on page. Now, it’s important because this is the first page that Google crawls when it hits a few websites. So you want to make sure it has optimized the best for your number one keyword.

For me, this is the personal blog that I created so I wanted to rank for John D. Saunders. I just created it yesterday but I’m putting into position so that when Google crawls it, it will slowly move to the top for the keyword. So the first thing you want to do is go at the back end [of your website. If you’re using WordPress, just go to the name-of-your-website/wp-admin.

Once you’re there, I would recommend installing a plug-in called Yoast or a plug in called all in one SEO. These give you SEO attributes that will help you edit your content based on the keyword you want to rank. So for example, we have installed Yoast and on every page, we’ll have an area where we can edit the SEO. I’m going to scroll down, pass a little my page content, down to that area and as you can see, this is the editor for Yoast.

So this is what my page will look like in the search engines. I want to go ahead and choose my focus keyword and type it here. Mine is john d saunders because I want to rank for my whole name. Next, it will show you a content analysis. This one has the breakdown of what things you can do to go ahead and get this page optimized for an optimal exposure on Google.

Now, it will give you tips so if I remove this keyword, as you can see, all of content analysis pieces disappear. If I put that keyword back, it will tell me things that I can do to further optimize my page. So for example, this page has five up bound links that’s green, great. The text contains 700 words. That’s more than 300-word minimum. I get another green circle. Now, you can go to all these items and make changes according to what the content analysis is telling you.

So this makes the SEO part of it so much easier than just trying to figure out how to optimize it. Once you have all that done, you scroll to the top and you hit update. The Yoast widget right here will tell you what score you get. Red means bad SEO, yellow means okay SEO and green means great SEO. So we’ve ranked perfectly for our page.

Now, if I scroll down, just a tip for you on the title, you want your keyword to always be at the beginning even if your website was called John’s Tools, you want to have your keyword in the beginning. No. Power tools in Miami, this pipe and then the name of your business. So your keyword that you’re trying to rank for should always be [0:09:55.3]. The main description do not really affect SEO, it’s more so a call to action. Here, you can put something enticing or something that will make the user click your content. Once that’s done and all of your settings here are good, you’re going to hit update again and boom!

As a side note, when you’re trying to figure out what your main keyword is, you want to go ahead and do a keyword research [0:10:18.2]. You want to find out what keywords will drive the most traffic and will be easier to implement on your site as opposed to competition by doing keyword research.

There’s a website that has an awesome, comprehensive guide, Backlinko.com/keyword-research, it has put together an elaborate way to do your keyword planning and research. I’ve used their tool numerous times over the course of the last few years and they’re always updating it.

As an example, we wanted to rank 5Four Digital Marketing Consulting Miami. So we made that our main keyword on the homepage and as you can see, right under the paid ads, we have one, two, three top positions. So, that’s why optimizing your homepage is so important and so crucial to your SEO strategy.

Okay, our last piece of quick fire SEO for you is business profiles on other websites. Why it is important? If someone has a meeting with you, you consult them on something or they’re just trying to look you up online because they’ve heard you and they’re typing your name in the search bar. You want to make sure that you have all the real estate you could possibly have on the homepage.

I say that because you want to set up a Google business listing so that you have this piece of real estate right here. As you can see, it has our information, our views and so forth. Our website is right here, number one, and then we have Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Crunch Base and more.

Another great reason to set up these pages is extended SEO. The more profiles you have on these websites, the more you have a digital footprint and the more Google can reward you with keyword placement. So off the bat, some platforms that rank really well are Crunch Base, right? So you can see it’s 9 and 10 on my position. Also, your Google Business ranks extremely well and the last one is Glassdoor.

First, you want to go ahead and setup your Google myBusiness page. All you do is visit Google.com/business. Now, if your business has a physical address, that’s even better because once you verify that and go to through the process, Google will send you a postcard to verify your listing. Within a couple of weeks, you get a nice piece of real estate right here with your business content.

Next up, you want to set up a Crunch Base profile. This is a platform where database of all the startups, their worth, who works for them, what their skills are, you can add your company to this list and these rank extreme well on organic search. You can go to CrunchBase.com and hit sign up and create your corporate page.

Lastly is Glassdoor. Glassdoor is a website platform where employees can review their employer. They can tell you what they like about it, tell you what they don’t want about it, kind of gives if companies are great. This also ranks extremely well. To start this up, go to employers and you do get free employer account. Now, it takes a day or so to set up because you do it manually but once you do that, that can rank really well for your business as well.

All of these provide backlinks to your website that can be beneficial for your SEO in the future.
